Hendrick S. Crowell, II, is the son of two attorneys, and he doesn't just practice criminal defense, he IS criminal defense. Since his undergraduate studies at CSU, Sacramento, his major in criminal justice kept him interested and content. He worked in his parent's criminal defense and personal injury law firm throughout college, and thereafter attended McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, where he was awarded by his professors for Excellence in Oral Advocacy. After law school, all the while working in his parents firm, he took and passed the California bar exam on his first try, and immediately opened his own practice.
In the early years of his firm, he focused more on personal injury. Always striving to be the best at whatever he does, he obtained several large settlements, ranging from $275,000 for a minor bitten by a dog, to $1,600,000, for a motorcyclist struck by a car. All the while, his interest was developing for criminal defense. Now, after many years of practice, he has honed his skills and is a force in the criminal defense field, having handled hundreds of trials and received many not guilty verdicts and dismissals.
Mr. Crowell's prides himself on being an honest attorney who truly cares about his clients. He does not use deception or unethical tactics- rather, he thoroughly tests the state's evidence and gives his clients their best chance at victory. He firmly believes that every person charged with a crime should have at least one person fighting for them, against the sometimes overwhelming power of the government. This attitude has garnered a great reputation with his colleagues and adversaries alike, which is evidenced by the large number of referrals he receives. One thing that sets him apart is the large number of referrals he receives from district attorneys and judges. Mr. Crowell takes special pride in these referrals, because it shows that he has built trust, and a tough fighting attitude.
Mr. Crowell is a 50% partner of Choyce & Crowell, LLP, and while the firm specializes in criminal defense and personal injury, his emphasis is criminal defense. Considered to be a traffic and DUI master, he is aware of the many intricacies of traffic and DUI defense, and strives to stay ahead of the curve. He is a regular at the continuing education seminars, near and far, and is regularly invited to be a guest speaker at these programs.
Mr. Crowell enjoys virtually every area of criminal defense, and once he is retained, he will do everything in his power to win victory for his client. He lives and breathes criminal defense, and even after hours he can be caught watching a courtroom drama, or driving his car with his custom plates, TKTPRUF. His philosophy is to charge a reasonable fee and do everything possible to help the client succeed, and with this his firm has enjoyed incredible success, currently employing four attorneys and four staff members in Sacramento and Fairfield.
Mr. Crowell is a member of many associations and organizations including the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Sacramento Consumer Attorneys, Consumer Attorneys of California, California Public Defenders Association, American Bar Association, Solano County Bar Association, Sacramento County Bar Association, and Yolo County Bar Association. Further he is admitted to practice in State court as well as the local United States District Court (Federal Court).
In his spare time, Mr. Crowell enjoys court shows, wakeboarding, snowboarding, basketball, and music. He believes in God and feels blessed to be able to have a job that he loves. Every time he helps a client he feels rewarded. For example, the day this bio was written, Mr. Crowell successfully argued to achieve an order from a judge finding his client not guilty of DUI. This resulted in his client keeping his job (county worker of 16 years with a commercial license), pay his mortgage, and support his family. The gratitude he receives from his clients fuels his passion to fight on.
